"Ordinary people can save lives in extra Ordinary moments"

Jump-starting a person's non-pulsating heart can be possible even outside hospitals: courtesy a compact, easy to use Automated External Defibrillator(AED) from Phillips. Used to give an electric shock to victim of sudden cardiac arrest, the AED can be installed in public places to save people from what accounts for one-fifth of deaths in India.

Waves Gym is the first health club in India to invest in such a device for the safety of our members. This compact and consumer friendly version of the larger gadget weighs around two-three kg and is of the size of a pocket edition. It even guides the user through verbal instructions. The defibrillator pads are placed on the victim's bare chest to allow the gadget to analyze the heart rhythm and determine if it is a cardiac arrest and if the shock is needed at all. If there is a need to deliver a shock, the system instructs the user to push the button to do the same. "All a person needs to know is the initial symptoms of a cardiac arrest - the heart beat becoming chaotic, causing the heart to abruptly stop pumping blood. The victim is then unresponsive, has no detectable pulse and stops breathing" says Dr. N. Chandra, cardiologist, Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi.

"Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) alone cannot help in case of sudden cardiac arrest; AED has to be used within five to seven minutes in case of a cardiac arrest or ventricular fibrillation (wherein heart beats faster than normal). The person is likely to die if intervention is delayed - each minute of delay reduces the chances of survival by 10%", says Dr. Chandra.

At Waves Gym, our endeavor has always been to expand and incorporate new changes within our facility and continuously certify and equip our fitness professionals with new fitness techniques to further enhance your experience with us. With the installation of AED within our premises, we shall maintain our principle of SEE (Safe, Efficient and Effective).
